LAKE DISTRICT SCRAMBLING

C19 Update

In-line with current guidelines, we are running this activity at limited venues, with adjustments in place to ensure everyone's safety.

Scrambling in the Lake District

More hands-on than Hill Walking, not as technical as Rock Climbing, Scrambling sits somewhere between the two, and is an exciting, exhilarating, challenging form of journeying in the mountains.

Grade 1 Scrambles (Striding Edge, Swirral Edge) don't normally require a rope, but will require you to use your hands on rock, and will definitely need a head for heights and a steady nerve. These scrambles provide an adventurous, flowing, mountaineering experience that are more challenging than the standard walking routes.

Grade 2 - 3 Scrambles (e.g. Pinnacle Ridge) have steeper, trickier sections of climbing, and usually require a rope and harness. If you've some previous Hill Walking or Grade 1 Scrambling experience, then these routes provide a challenging journey through otherwise inaccessible mountain terrain.

Guided Scrambles.

Guided by a hugely experienced and qualified Mountaineering Instructor who will look after you every step of the way. Your guide will ensure you have an unforgettable mountain adventure.

Cost £150.00 - £180.00 / day

Grade 1 Scrambles - max group size 5

Grade 2 / 3 Scrambles - max group size 2

Scrambling Skills

After chatting with you to work out your aims, your instructor will design a unique course just for you on some of the best scrambling routes in the Lakes. The focus will be on passing on new skills and knowledge to help equip you become an independent mountaineer!

Cost £180.00 / day

Max group size 2

Our courses are all bespoke and tailored to suit you. If you need inspiration, some of our most popular courses and guided trips are highlighted below.

Remember, if you don't see what you're after, then get in touch anyway - we can usually help.

CLIMB HELVELLYN VIA STRIDING EDGE

Voted "Britain's best walk" in 2018, and we have to agree.

At 950m / 3117ft, Helvellyn is the third highest mountain in England.

There are several routes to the summit, but our favourite has to be this one - The infamous Striding Edge.

Staring in Glenridding, this route is classed as a grade 1 scramble, which means that, although we wont be rock-climbing, you will need to use your hands in places, and will definitely need a head for heights. Once over the summit, we descend via a second ridge scramble, Swirral Edge (also grade 1).

Quite simply, the best mountain day in England!! (IMO)

Cost £150.00 per group (max. 5)

CLIMB PINNACLE RIDGE

We think this is quite possibly the best mountain scramble in England!

We meet in Patterdale (near Penrith), before the long walk-in to the base of the route, high above the Grisedale Valley. The route itself has an almost Alpine feel to it, and lands us almost directly at the summit of St Sundays Crag (840m).

At Grade 3 it involves sustained sections of hands on climbing, with a tricky (but short lived) crux section. You should have some previous Scrambling or Rock Climbing experience before booking this guided climb.

Cost £180.00 (max group size 2)
