Yesterday, Outdoor Education North West delivered a combined climbing wall revalidation and further training day for the staff at Fleetwood.
Fleetwood High are lucky enough to have their own climbing wall within the school but, in the past, a lack of qualified staff has meant that the wall has been underused.
In early 2016 the school approached us to deliver training to their staff to allow them to use the wall with their students, to introduce them to the joy of rock climbing!
Following a very successful training and assessment programme, based on the Mountain Training guidelines, a number of staff were signed off as competent to deliver introductory sessions.
In order to ensure high standards of both safety and quality the training we provide requires regular revalidation so yesterday we successfully delivered a high quality session that combined revalidation with further training.
The school are now able to continue delivering introductory sessions to their pupils, and also more advanced climbing sessions with the aim of further developing their students skills, so that in the future they will be able to offer GSCE climbing as part pf their provision.
It was particularly satisfying to see how the school staff have developed their own skills through practice and experience over the last twelve months - this is huge credit to them, and ultimately opens up many new opportunities for their students! Well done all!
